Small businesses, independent contractors, and entrepreneurs of all forms are the lifeblood of the U.S. economy, employing 48.3% of all workers. Despite employing nearly half of all working Americans, 34% of small business owners do not offer retirement savings plans, and even more alarmingly for businesses with fewer than 10 employees, only 28% offer access to them. While independent contractors may have the benefit of only having to choose a retirement plan that fits their own needs, they too face the same obstacles of administrative fees and paperwork.

For independent contractors and uninsured small business owners/employees, the Health Care Exchange can be a difficult and expensive market to navigate.
Furthermore, other group benefits such as vision, dental, life, and disability insurance are more-often-than-not offered as the exception rather than the rule. While some small business owners and independent contractors may be able to find some group coverage through professional organizations, oftentimes that coverage is still inadequate and no one near as cost-effective as true group pricing.
